Productivity Commission Report on Child Care

The Productivity Commission has released its report on various Government Services - which includes an analysis of Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) nationally. The report comprises a detailed study of Early Education performance, efficiency, cost and social impact.

Some key findings of the report include:

  • The national proportion of children (aged 0-5 years) attending approved child care services has increased from 42.3% in 2016 to 43.6% in 2018

  • National Quality Framework (NQF) approved long day care services has increased by 4.0% year on year

  • Government spending on ECEC has decreased year on year by 2.3% (real terms) to $9.25 billion
